Production of the Flakpanzer 38t started in October 1943.   It was intended to provide protection against low-level air attack and was a stop-gap measure until more effective vehicles based on the Panzer IV became available.   Around 150 were produced and all served  on the Western Front - in action from D-Day onwards.
