Probably the best known of the wartime 15cwts. It entered service just prior to the outbreak of the war and Vauxhall Motors had produced some 66,000 (not all of them GS trucks) by the time production ceased in 1945. In common with other 15cwts. of the time, early types had an open cab and were supplied without a tilt. They were the "platoon truck " for infantry. Initially issued on the basis of one per platoon, they carried the ammunition, rations and kit.
