The gun entered service in April 1940 and was first used in action in the Greek and Libyan campaigns in 1941.   It was an advanced design for the times and continued in service throughout the war.   Gradually replaced by the Pak 40 in ant-tank artillery regiments, the Pak 38 was re-alocated to the A/T companies of first-line Infantry regiments.
