Armament of the basic Marmon Herrington armoured car was one 0.55 inch Boys ant-tank rifle and a co-axial 0.303 inch Bren Gun. A Vickers 0.303 inch mg. was provided for AA use. The 20mm Breda cannon entered service with the Italian Army in 1935 and proved to be an effective weapon. The British fitted captured examples to many Marmon Herringtons in an attempt to improve their hitting power. Recce patrols usually included at least one "Breda Car".
