The Mk VI was the final developmemt of the lightly-armoured Vickers-Carden-Loyd light tank series and entered production in 1936. Light tanks formed the bulk of British tank strength in 1940, both in France and in the Western Desert, and were widely used to equip armoured divisions in Britain after Dunkirk.
Detail changes were introduced during the series production. The VIC had improved engine performance and was more powerfully armed than it's predecessors, with 15mm and 7.92mm air-cooled Besa mgs. The cupola was removed and replaced with a split hatch incorporating a periscope for the commander.
