Accepted into service in 1933, the sIG 33 was the largest calibre weapon ever classified by any nation as an infantry gun. It was reliable and strong, but somewhat heavy. Capable of firing H.E., smoke and (from 1941) hollow charge A/T shells, the sIG 33 remained in service throughout the war and many went on to serve with smaller nations into the 1950s.
