Production of the Ausf. G started in May 1942 and 1687 chassis were produced as gun tanks. They were initially armed with the Kwk 40 L/43 used in the Ausf. F2, but fitted with a new double - baffle muzzle brake. The vision ports on the turret sides and on the right side of the turret front were eliminated, saving time and cost in production and marginally improving protection. However, basic armour protection remained at 50mm.
From late March 1943 the L/48 gun was fitted to the last 400 or so vehicles. Around 700 were produced with an additional 30mm of armour bolted or welded to the hull and superstructure front. Ausf. Gs served in Tunisia and on the Eastern front. This kit features the spaced armour turret skirts as an integral moulding with the turret.
